Wandering Songs is an international storytelling and cultural heritage initiative that documents people’s stories through music. Through field recordings, audiovisual storytelling and collaboration with musicians and communities, we explore the connections between music, identity, memory and place. By bringing local stories to a global audience, Wandering Songs connects people across cultures and generations through the universal language of music.
Music moves us, both emotionally and physically. It is a powerful medium through which emotions are expressed, stories are told, lessons are shared and memories are carried across generations. Across the world, people use music to speak about experiences that often remain unspoken: conflict, inequality, resilience, belonging and hope. Songs can carry personal memories, community histories and cultural knowledge in ways that written records often cannot. They can comfort, inspire, commemorate and teach, helping people make sense of the past, navigate the present and imagine the future.
All recorded songs and videos are collected on the Wandering Songs YouTube channel. With over one million viewers worldwide, Wandering Songs continues to connect local voices with a global audience while sharing the stories, memories, knowledge and hopes carried through music.
